Situated on the outskirts of the beautiful and picturesque town of Ellwangen and lying near the pilgrimage church and convent “Schönenberg”, the state school provides secondary and tertiary education for about 2000 students.

As a secondary school we offer two-year courses for secondary school leaving certificates. In addition students can enrol in one-, two-, or three-year courses for the higher education entrance qualification.

The main focus of our school, however, is on tertiary training with 32 job profiles to choose from, in our departments of technology, commerce, domestic science, care and health, and natural sciences.

The department of natural sciences is proud to offer its facilities to the competitors of the 10th Grand Prix Chimique. In the department we train laboratory technicians who specialise in the following sectors: chemistry, environmental science, and pharmacy.

Each year about 100 new students enrol in one of the two-year courses. According to the course syllabus they specialise in the different sectors of chemistry and laboratory technology; in inorganic chemistry, environmental law, environmental technology, molecular biology / biotechnology; in pharmacy subjects and pharmaceutical technology.

Modern teaching laboratories for chemistry and pharmacy, a biotech laboratory with integrated clean room (security level S1), and an analytical laboratory with state-of-the-art measuring instruments, provide an ideal training environment for students and teachers alike.

Extracurricular activities include
-        courses for primary-school children: Chemistry is Fun,
-        courses in molecular biology / biotechnology,
-        courses for the qualification as “hazardous materials expert”,
-        courses in the preparation of cytostatic drugs for pharmacy technicians,
-        yearly conferences for pharmacy technicians on selected topics,
-        international projects with the focus on environmental protection methods,
-        cooperation with the University of Reading (UK): practical training and further qualification for lab technicians.
